So, shouldn't this have a poll or something? I mean, are you satisfied with the results you've gotten?
For the record, I expect Factions to exceed sales of the Original. Why? Because people have been buying Guild Wars for a year now, there are more current players (like me) than at release. Also, add in those who are buying Factions as their first GW product, and that should counter any who are "holding off" or "sitting out".

Also from the radio interview.
Sales of C1 are still strong. There have increase play again from accounts that stopped playing.
You should listen to the radio interview (on the front page). PvE from what they talked about changes and such don't seem forgotten at all and they tried to improve it.

Not everyone feels the need to be in a PvP guild to enjoy this game. Eventhough you and I may feel PvP is the most fun. Many people in this thread have expressed they have much more fun without the PvP aspect of the game.
So clearly it can be enjoyed by both.
There are now going to be PvE mission that contirbute equaly to the PvP "Favor" system.
This is a great idea. Currently only PvP effects if you can get into The UW etc. The new systems means that even the strongest PvP guilds will have to ally with PvE guilds to be a contender (unless they want to go do the PvE themselves *cry*).

Yes, I am very satisfied with the answers I've gotten. A lot of people showed a lot of restraint from just giving blind comments save a few(not pointing any fingers).
I didn't add a poll because it prevents in depth info for the choice that was made. Getting people to type out decisions infront of them makes for a better reasoning of why the choice was made instead of "Because it was Guild Wars".

That is good news. I just hope that its actually true. The increase from dead accounts must mean that they are looking forward to Factions or is willing to give GW another try. That is also a good sign.
Also, I tend not to listen to radio interviews since they would not hold my interest long. Maybe if someone did a typed transcript of what was said, then I would gladly read it.
In the future I will try to "not" make my threads sound so anti-Anet as some say. Maybe a choice of different words to say the same thing since some are so sensitive to Anet getting a grill every now and then.

PvP is not the only realm of competative play. PvE is just as much competative. Who can get FoW armor. Who has the most money. Who can get that perfect stat weapon. There are many points in PvE that are very competative. If it wasn't competative we wouldn't have an econemy. Its a competative game all around not just in PvP.
Yes At&t gives blizzard huge discounts on server and bandwidth. They have had that deal going ever since D2. They have many banners and advertisements saying powered by AT&T technology. I don't think any gaming company can justify the monthly fees. Unless they are broadband only games they do not cost much for bandwidth. Even then they are making a profit off the monthly fees.

- access to elitemissions is dependable on ownership of the towns. Knowing that towns get owned by a combination of pvp (for the pushing and pulling of the line) and pve (for the actual faction to splash down and get it for one alliance). This implies that the person who owns the city will be able to enjoy these elite missions. Knowing that most of the pve missions and pvp missions can be repeated ad nauseum for faction and the budging of the line you can come to a logical conclusion that the alliance with the most till max active people (1000 people or 10 guilds) for the longest time (24/24 7/7) will in the end be the ones that for sure will own these towns. Therefore shutting out the casual people(that play not daily but on occasion when it fits their timeschedule in stead of the alliances). And it will even shut out the people that are more skilled if these people are unable to log in sufficiently to counter the repeated factiongrinding due to a looser timeschedule. Seems simply logical to me.
- the preview was a mere demo ay, and limitted but it still demonstrated perfectly the focus of the game since that is exactly what a demo does. It contains the new and excitting appetizers that are trying to convince you in buying the game so you can actual experience it all. But for me the factionpreview wasn't a success to earn me as a paying customer due to the items mentioned before. And once more if I or any of the other potential customers picked up wrong information then that can only be reduced back to faulty communication which in essence is the job of a company to propperly market a product. But like i stated before, you guys/gals are wise enough to decide for your own. I made my opinion and just stated the reasons why i took them. It just annoys me that if you aren't of the opinion of anet made a brilliant game that you are insane or because the previous one was great people should buy the next one even if it doesn't measure up to a persons expectations.
- The point about the 100$ difference is a tad fuzzy math I agree, which was the reason I stated the on the limp part. It all boils down to basing yourself on 0 as a startingpoint and spending the money as being -50 and saving the money as being +50 ergo the difference between these 2 extremes is 100$. So it would be in stead of having 50 bucks on my bankaccount by not buying the game I would have a 50 bucks deficit if I did buy it which as you can properly agree is in essence a 100 buck difference. This is also the way most opportunityosts get factored in in companies. But like I stated before, im a big scrooge so its normal that i will turn my cent 20 times before spending it.
- And lastly loviatar, seeing that i was pointing out my opinion, and I am a chapter 1 owner, the game is for me nothing more then a mere expansion. But the entire point I was trying to make was that for these so called rerturn buyers the normal expected result would be a merger seeing the chapterwise setup and then marketing it for these people as well as a standalone product is spindoctering or at least it is that for me. I know that many people disagree, but that is for once how I feel about it, and as you know people that are set in their ways are near impossible to change their opinion.

Wow, by that logic, I'm a millionaire because I didn't spend a million dollars...
No wonder companies like Enron get their budgets all screwed up if they count the money they don't spend as income! (by the way, sarcasm)

You know, that was my plan to get rich quick too! Sheesh, way to spoil it for me.
Anyhow, since I didn't get the original game until 6 months after release, I don't really feel any urge to buy Chapter 2 immediately. More appropriately, I'd like to see if the price of Ch. 1 goes down after the release of Ch. 2 before deciding when to buy it.

Something from the radio interview that caught my interest.

Yeah very interesting...first you work together to get the territory; then you fight over the controle of it. Just as stated in the Lore.
Overall I think the interviews are giving us some great information.
Special thanks to the guys over there at VGM Daily.

This is more a self imposed competition, rather than one put in place by the devs. Now, just in case that "self imposed" catches offense, keep reading.
When I see someone with FoW armor or a sweet looking item, I may ask them where they got it, compliment them on it or what-not. But I've never set out to compete and have better than someone else. In fact, if someone asked me to help them get an item I had that they liked, I would likely do so.
Now, the self imposed plays a part in my enjoyment of the game. Which I've admited to on several occasions, but it also plays towards many others' way of thinking (from what I read). I don't enjoy PvP or competitive play (as we all know by now - heh). I opt to not play it, I therefore self impose that restriction on myself. In doing this, I will be missing out on parts of the game. These parts, the Elite Missions for example, are a considering factor (the access of such) in my purchasing Factions.* This restriction has also taken a great deal of enjoyment away from my enjoying FoW and UW (I don't like to farm, so farming isn't an issue with me). Now, if I did enjoy PvP then could hop on other there and play that "earn" the area... but then I would still be out of game time and have to log off... so either way, I still miss out on what I'm after. Also, seeing that Jeff Strain has pretty much confirmed the Elite Missions are rewards for competing, it looks as though I'll be missing out on that... which was something I was really looking forward to testing myself and guild members in.
I can't and don't blame Anet (never have) for the design, but I have spoken out my opinion on a request for the system to be changed. I've done so in a way that hopefully doesn't take away the "fun" and "value" from others. If Anet were to unlink PvP and PvE completely, I would be happy and buying Factions would be a no brainer for me. This, however in it's extreme form, does take away from some players so a sacrifice must be made. So, it is because of this "self imposed" limit that Factions does not completely appeal to me.
Again, it's self imposed cause I really don't like PvP or competitive play.
* This brings me to this: @Mordakai - hehe, thanks for caring - I'm gonna wait a bit and see what you (and others) have to say about it. If most or at least the biggest issues are changed (or, turn out not as bad as I assume them to be) then I'll probably go pick it up after I have finished Oblivion.
If, for the most part it is as I assume, I'll hang on to the cash for Chapter 3 and see what it has to offer... course I could go invest in a calculator since I can't add.
As for buying one Chapter a year. If GW was the only game I were interested in, then I could grab all chapters without issue. However, I've a rather long list of wants that I'll not get this year or next mostly in part to a family trip to Disney World.

I see this as the biggest problem Anet has to deal with yet. When trying to merge play styles, some of the biggest complaints we've seen in the forums deal directly with this. Attitude. Elitest attitudes.
I see those role players that are trying to get into the PvP gaming getting shouted at, cursed at, being called the ever humorous "noob" and more. Know why I see that? Cause that's what I got in the FPE.
|
I've run into more and more of that myself. It's funny how most of the people who shout it loudest are the ones who it applies to most, ne? Regardless, you find that in every single online game you play nowadays...CS, WoW, GW, etc. That attitude is everywhere because of a very simple theory called "John Gabriel's Greater Internet F-wad Theory". It's indisplutable and unescapable.

The funny thing about this opinion is that the quality of PUGs only decreases over time since most of the hardcore players who are used to the game and it's AI go through the missions the second the game comes out. When GW first came out, the PUGs I would end up in were generally skilled, competant, and friendly. Now I encounter rage quitters, "noob"-callers, "invinci"-warriors, etc. as well as occasional excellent PUGs. I would have to say that if a good PUG is what you're looking for, earlier is better than later

More like 3 gallons or Regular and a 10c thin mint here I can't honestly tell anyone that $50 is not a lot of money since I cannot deny that not all ended up as fortunate as some (myself included in the some). When I was living with my mother as a child, things were very tight, money-wise, and spending on something that might not be as enjoyable as something else was to be avoided at all costs. If you are in a position where spending $50 is something that requires serious thought with options weighed carefully, I would advise you to save your money instead of spending it. Period. When you are in a financial position like that, it makes sense to spend your money on something less extravagant.
NOTE: This opinion of mine conveniently ignores the fact that you already have at least $700-1,000 (likely more) of gaming computer sitting in your living room.
In closing, I will be buying one copy of GWF:CE and will see all you Luxon slappywag's on the battlefield!

I can't speak for people who say $50 is too much. I just know I love this game. I recently bought a second copy of Prophecies because I wanted a Warrior and an Elementalist. In time I'm sure I'll own 2 copies of Factions, but one copy is definitely on pre-order here. For me it's good times... as a PvE player, I get the chance to learn PvP from people who do it all the time.

What about multiple accounts? You say 30quid isn't much but take that and double it and it really does start to add up.
You can't honestly expect me to choose between my PvP slot, Ranger, Warrior and Ele and my Necro, Monk, Mesmer and Storage Char can you over which 1 to take to factions first?
I think i'll just wait a bit and get mine cheap. Or maybe just not bother at all and go play CS:S...

Welcome to the forums ZenMonkey.
The name Guild Wars could be taken in the way you refer it too. However, as the case is here, it's refering to the lore of the game, not the game mechanic. For anyone that can access it, Guild Wars Chapter 1 hand book (or labeled "The GuildWars Manuscripts"), this can be found on pages 26 through 34 in "History of Tyria".
In short though, since you don't have access to it, guilds were formed in Tyrias past to uphold the rules of kingdoms. Wars broke out within the kingdoms of men and the guilds were the "warriors" of those wars. A greater threat eventually brought all men together to face the new threat... and pick up from there, Chapter 1.
As Jeff Strain, the lead developer says, the game started out as a role playing game and has since added game mechanics to it.
Please don't take anything I say as negative towards the game... I enjoy the game as a whole and we (the community) have a semi-unique situation. Our devs actually listen to the player base and take suggestions and comments and work to add them to the game (the good ones anyway). So, my comments are made in hopes that changes are made to making the game more enjoyable to myself and others... hopefully, at the same time not taking something other's consider fun away.
